Brunico Castle, Brunico Civic Museum, Brunico Planetary Route, Museum of Custom
Brunico Castle
Brunico Castle which, like the town, took its name from its founder, is surrounded by massive walls with towers and bastions. The castle is still well preserved and, except for a brief period, until today it has been owned by the Bishop of Bressanone (diocesan administration). In 2011 the famous mountaineer Reihold Messner opened the fifth Messner Mountain Museum here. His aim is not only to “show”, but to invite visitors to exchange their experiences on the spot with the mountain populations. Every year guests from a different mountain region spend summer at the Messner Mountain Museum to illustrate their living conditions, accompanied by the display of items of everyday use in the various regions.

Museum of Custom
The Museum of Custom at Teodone is the oldest of the Provincial Museums in South Tyrol. At the noble residence Mair am Hof and in the adjacent open-air museum, the juxtaposition of noble and peasant homes offers a view of a historic and social cross-section of the past world. The museum, which can be visited on foot, presents an educational tour of the cultural history of the ordinary people, illustrating especially the daily work of the peasants in the fields and farms, thus giving an idea of the living conditions of the time.
Opening hours: from Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30 to 17.30; Sundays and holidays from 14.00 to 18.00 (in August till 19.00).
